JAPANESE VERSION "Anybody knows nothing about this power." "There was a Dragon. There was a Tiger. They were the strongest in the world!" ...thus introduces the reader to the cover of this one-on-one fighter for SNK's Neo Geo. Setting itself apart were the extremely large characters and smooth scaling--the camera zoomed in and out to fit the action onscreen. This first in the series allowed only two playable characters in single player mode, Ryo Sakazaki and his buddy Robert Garcia, as they seek out Ryo's kidnapped sister Yuri. Set in the late 1970s, the game features some ridiculous in-between-match cinematics. Some of these characters would later migrate into the Fatal Fury and King of Fighters universes, among others. This game is HARD and it has some interesting fighting systems (such as a sprit gauge limiting special moves and restricting to a single punch and single kick button). The animation is smooth and it definitely caught some eyes at the time. The series is known as "Ryuko no Ken" in Japan. |
